Manual Proxy Configuration
(for Windows)
Getting there

From the control panel, go to your Internet Options. Following that, click on the 'Connections' tab. From there, click on LAN Settings to bring up another dialog window with all the goodies inside. You should also have your client settings dialog open, but that's not vital for this step.

Following that, if you see any proxy information, you're in business. Copy the server address and port over to the client settings. That's all there is to it. If you don't see this data, you probably aren't using a proxy.
SOCKS Proxy

It's always a good idea to check and see if you're using a SOCKS proxy before you save the settings. If you click 'Advanced' in the LAN settings and see a configuration similar to that above, you should select 'SOCKS' from the drop-down box on the right in the client settings dialog.
Automatic Configuration Script
IMPORTANT: If you see any kind of 'automatic configuration script' enabled in the top field, you are probably using some kind of externally configured proxy that's specified in the file that the field points to. This file is usually on another machine somewhere. You can download the file yourself by copying the address into your browser. You should be able to open it with Notepad as a regular text file. Somebody at the help desk may also be able to help you if you give them the address. If the file is labeled at a local IP address (192.X.X.X), you'll need to download it for us, because we won't be able to get to it with such an address.
